Far East Six Nation’s Joint Buddhist Initiative

Junsei Terasawa, a Buddhist monk from Japan (see biography), is leading a group of 12 members on a Peace Mission Journey. After completing public events of Goodwill in Geneva, London and Brussels in February this year (see Newsletter) the Journey will start in Moscow and Kiev going further east to both halves of the Korean Peninsula. This initiative is aimed at creating an international and interreligious civic response to the crises on the Korean Peninsula.
Buddhist civilization has covered the whole of the Far East. Terasawa seeks to use this common spiritual heritage as a uniting force for peace and reconciliation among the people of the six nations, namely North-Korea, South Korea, China, Russia, Mongolia and Japan. He will mobilize Buddhists from these nations to confirm their commitment to peace and the rejection of war in accordance with the peaceful teachings of Buddha.
The delegation will be carrying a sacred Buddha relic and want to propose to North Korea to build a Pagoda at Mt. Diamond with these relics as a joint project of Buddhists of all these six nations.
