When religion is flooded with reasoning, much of what it holds will get washed away; what remains is pure spirituality. Religion is a technique to become spiritual. Spirituality is nothing but Life Engineering. It is a quality that enables you to live a life centered on the miracles of Existence, in the firm conviction that you are part of a macrocosmic orchestra being conducted by Existential Energy. It keeps you in a liberated state inside while you perform in the outer world, intelligently and effortlessly.

Man has always researched the origin of this universe; what is it that created this beautiful earth and rolled it into space? He concluded it is an Energy, and then worked to establish a connection with that Energy. The first people to establish a connection were the ancient Rishis. Once established, they created techniques for future generations to realise this Energy— the different religions—just as scientists draft research reports on their discoveries for the people. Although the formula given by each Rishi was different, all of them spoke about the same Existential energy. But we cling onto the formula and forget it’s purpose.

Those who fight in the name of religion are those who have not had a taste of spiritual experience. If they understand how religion took root and what its purpose is, they will see how they are missing the whole point.

When religion takes you to spirituality, you will understand that spirituality is nothing but life itself. Religion is quantity; spirituality is quality. Because religion is quantity and takes time, we finish our responsibilities and turn towards it at the fag end of our lives! What is the use?

Religion is nothing but a stepping-stone to understand your spiritual nature and live life in a sweet and blissful way. The writer is founder of the Nithyananda Foundation, based in Bangalore.
